DS 4: New engines and upmarket equipment

Following the PureTech 130 and BlueHDi 120 in November, three additional new engines combining economy and power are available on the DS 4: the THP 165 S&S EAT6, the BlueHDi S&S 150 6-speed manual and the BlueHDi S&S 180 EAT6. In all, five new engines – all of them Euro 6-compliant – will have been launched in four months on the DS 4. This full-scale review of the engine range brings higher performance and better energy efficiency, putting the DS 4 at the top of the tree in this vehicle category ! The DS 4 also gets touch navigation and hands-free access and start-up, features more usually found higher up in the price scale.

The new engines available on the DS 4 develop torque of 240 Nm to 400 Nm and boast fuel consumption of 3.7 l/100 km to 5.5 l/100 km. After being equipped with a 3-cylinder petrol engine and the BlueHDi 120 in late 2014, the DS 4 gains a new petrol engine, the THP 165 S&S EAT6, and two new diesels, the BlueHDi 150 S&S 6-speed manual and the BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6. The new engines bring customers even more power and even lower fuel consumption.

THP 165 S&S EAT6: a standard-setter in fuel economy and CO2 emissions

Available with the new EAT6 6-speed automatic gearbox, the THP 165 S&S engine is an impressive performer, with fuel consumption of 5.5 l/100 km – a 29% improvement on the THP 160 – CO2 emissions of under 130 g/km, and 240 Nm of torque. These figures make it a strong competitor in its category.

BlueHDi 150 S&S 6-speed manual, a benchmark in fuel economy, CO2 emissions and torque

The BlueHDi 150 S&S 6-speed manual also raises the game, with 50 Nm more torque, 25 bhp higher power, an a 20% cut in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption compared with the HDi 135. The figures speak for themselves: the new engine consumes just 3.9 l/100 km of fuel, emits a mere 100 g/km of CO2, yet develops torque of 370 Nm, 20 to 70 Nm more than its main rivals.

Blue HDi 180 S&S EAT6: fuel economy and torque

The second new diesel unit for DS 4 to appear in 2015 is the Blue HDi 180 S&S EAT6. With the new EAT6 six-speed automatic transmission it offers the driver outstanding performance and fuel economy: 4.3 l/100 km for 113 g /km of CO2, and torque of 400 Nm, the highest in this vehicle category (up to 50 Nm more than its main rivals), for the best in driving pleasure.

HFAS and touch navigation: technology for driver pleasure

Technology is a key value for the DS brand and is fully expressed in the equipment on the DS 4, which is now available with hands-free access and start-up (HFAS) and touch navigation. With HFAS, drivers can open, close and start their car while keeping their keys in their pockets, with the key detected at a distance of two metres from the vehicle. The new high-resolution 7-inch touch tablet simplifies use of the satnav system and other functionalities, and also contributes to improving cabin ergonomics.
